Pin Up

Today, we pinned up in 401! I can’t believe it has snowed so much that we didn’t get to present yesterday and we are getting more snow tonight so we most likely can’t present tomorrow! It is crazy! Well I set up my materials, the Bison Pop-up Parks Guide, model and 6 11×17’s. I took photos of my model in the larger street scape model and everything together. I could’ve practiced my presentation speech today but I’m not feeling well and it would hurt to talk that long (3 minutes) straight. I have my speech notes just in case but I think I’ll do a fine job presenting. I like to present!

Tomorrow Comes the Presentation!

ALANEA PERSP-Recovered copy-page-001Parklet Rendering Persp copy-page-001This past week I have been working hard on my parklet design project. The perspective images are two completed views I am using in my presentation. Angle on sidewalk model Truck Street View Model I added scaled figures and worked on the shading in Photoshop.

The other two images are better quality photos of my laser cut model. I used my Dad’s nice photography camera so that I could capture its features in a more successful way.

Layering My Renderings

For WordPressThis week I have been working on layering my renderings with a street scape image. It took a lot of practice and patience but I think it turned out well. Tomorrow I will post my rendering without the faded backgrounds, and instead with the street scape being bold and more noticeable. I am also currently working on my Illustrator file for the laser cutter. Everything takes a lot of time. INCLUDING receiving my samples. This weather has pushed back their postal service delivery dates.

Parklet REDO

Parklet Final 2015-02-12 14363700000 Parklet Final 2015-02-12 14341300000This week I really did some thinking about how to incorporate my design concept more. I gutted the lounge chairs and focused on making the waterfall the form of my parklet. The detailing on the wood are wood burned quotes about community in order to tie in Scuppernong Book’s in a more effective way. I also used the Art Deco font for the quotes which is very much like their store’s font. I was going to make a custom railing but I decided that simplicity matters especially with the atmosphere of Scuppernong Books, also it is more costly to do a custom railing feature…and a lot of my parklet is custom already. The curved forms are meant to mimic a waterfall and its movement. The seating is at different heights in different areas and I used reclaimed wood on most of it. I’m so excited with this new design!

Now, I’m not sure if my bench should have perforated metal as the base or reclaimed wood so here is the perforated option:Parklet Final 2015-02-12 16480700000

Schematic Presentation

Today, I presented to Steve from Scuppernongs my two possible design plans. He loved the wood burning quotes and book-like lounge seating. I really tried to focus on a palette of posture and different materials. I also got good feedback today about the location of relaxation and how it should be closer to the tree. I’ve also decided that there won’t be a garden wall due to all of the problems but I’ll have a few planters here and there. My whole plan in about to change…
